It was 3 A.M. on a sultry night
Our hearts were restless and mean
Our high was coming down
And we felt like hitting the street
So we hopped in through the hatchback doors
With the rise of the stereo’s sound
We went off for a night drive
Gonna race all through the town
The hill up to the first big road
Was steeper in our high
The stars flew by from a restless sky
with the windows open wide
We were stuck here in our Rome
On a runaway night drive
The cop cars in our sight
Slow down, just by the light
We dismissed all the lethal
Racing like immortals
Bracing the fatal
We were so young, hungry and free
On a night drive through the streets
Though my heart stayed in it’s cage
I felt like words raised from a page
Taken away from under the weight
Of the world
For a moment I could breathe
Breaking every limit at break-neck speed
For once I felt alive
As I came back in from the other side
We dismissed all the lethal
racing like immortals
Bracing the fatal
We were so young, hungry and free
On a night drive through the street
We pulled up to my old driveway
The chorus still playing loud
We strolled back in through the night
And we blended back into the crowd
As we went inside the sun did rise
The light crept all around
Our high had disappeared
But in this night drive I was found
We dismissed all the lethal
Racing like immortals
Bracing the fatal
We were so young, hungry and free
On a night drive through the streets
I’ve never really needed anybody but thanks for using me and wasting the last year of my life.
Thank you! I play guitar as well! What do you use?
I’ve come to the realization that there has to be some kind of higher power, though power is a misleading word for it. A better description would be a force, like gravity or inertia, something so at the base of existence that it just is, and therefore needs less of an explanation because it is the explanation. It’s the same way levels of thought are apparent between different species. When an animal see’s it’s reflection in a mirror it obviously can’t comprehend what makes that mirror work, but they react to it differently. When they see the reflection they can be doing two things logically: They might assume its a new animal and are confused by the physics of the mirror. Or, they see themselves for the first time and are confused by that. Either way, its very clear that they notice something, they see something is different about that piece of space but cannot fathom what it could be, ever.
It’s this sense of an un-explainable force that I feel everyone senses in some way. Whether you call it god, fate, karma, science, what ever, the name is irrelevant because a supernatural force of that magnitude is so beyond our plane of thought that we can only know that something is there. Your perception is what defines it. Fate in the sense of “every single thing happens for a reason” might be far-fetched to most people, but maybe things don’t happen for a reason, but they are the simply the only things that could happen. Looking back on history hindsight may be 20/20, but those things didn’t happen and there is no possible way to change it. Learn from your mistakes instead of dwelling on them, they’ve already been made. Bad things will happen. Life will be seemingly unfair and overwhelming. It’s gonna seem like the world is against you sometimes and you can’t do anything about it. But you can. Look at every situation in every light. When my parents got divorced it was the shittiest thing in the world at the time, and I didn’t understand why it was happening to me. But looking back its only made me a more independent person, my parents were busy supporting us and themselves so I became more introverted, but in the long run I’m better suited to live on my own. Wishing a problem never happened never made anything better, but looking back on it, analyzing and finding something good within the dark can save you from the constant stress of worry about the past and the future.
It’s so easy to get wrapped up in cynicism and negativity because honestly, there are a lot of evil people and atrocities being committed around the world. But finding the good in the world is just as important as being aware of the evil. We can all learn from our mistakes and the mistakes of others. People often say “ignorance is bliss”, and while this is partially true, the less you know the more likely you are to be happy, but to me a more profound happiness is one where you are fully aware of the reality around you but you still have hope that someday it will be better. And every day things move in a more positive direction all around the world. It’s often too small to notice and too many times a change in perception around the world is held back by convention and fear, but every day one more person out there trying to benefit the world in some way.
We all just need something to believe in. It doesn’t matter what it is. You don’t even need a name for it. And don’t confine it to religion. If you believe the fundamental driving force of the universe is science, then be passionate about it, embrace science, love it, bring in as much knowledge as you can and you’ll be a happier person for it. (And despite my opinion on fate, if you perceive the universe to be a series of random events controlled by chance, that’s your perception on how the things work, I’m not trying to sway that) Personally, I believe that if I die without impacting at least one person’s life through my actions in a truly positive way that I will die a failure. I think the driving force behind mine and our existence is to make this the best fucking world it can be. I crave to inspire anyone to feel that they have a chance in the world the way my heroes inspire me. I’ll do it any way I can. I’ll play music, I’ll write, I’ll teach, shit i’ll be a stay at home dad. But that’s what I believe in. I believe in humanity. And if you have something you believe in as passionately as I do now, then follow it and embrace. Look at the world from every perspective, positive and negative, if you don’t you’ll go through life deluded by either blindness or cynicism.
The world is only how you see it.

If you have 30 minutes to watch the video made by the IC, then you have 12 minutes to actually be EDUCATED on the conflict and the organization instead of shown just a bunch of awful images and quick-fix solutions. You’re boiling down the complexities of war and life and government down to just “I’m aware, here’s my money, the problems gone, right?”. Even if Kony is killed or captured and brought to justice (Which he should be!) the conflict WILL NOT END. this isn’t a god damn comic book, when you kill the super villain the rest of them don’t just disappear. The world isn’t black and white, he may be an evil man, but he’s fighting another evil over there, so killing him will just give them more power. It’s a delicate situation that needs to be handled with diplomacy and pragmatic thought, not a viral web campaign.

White knuckles
Gripped to the handles of your bike
Stained denim
With blood
Pale sunrise
Coming up, the eastern light
On the new day you run
You think back on
Your last day in town
Some bravery gone wrong
With hands shaking
You cover up your eyes
But the memory still feels the light
Beth stood in the doorway
With her black dress to her knees
A heart breaker, a dream maker.
She could set your old soul free
Night had set over the town
With the street lights glowing dim
As you walked you heard the sound
Of the bad kids closing in
And there you were surrounded
On the dark side of town
The switch of blades sounded
And your hand reached down
With a blur the silver knives
Rushed through the night
And the blood shone in the moonlight
So you ran
Under cover of darkness
While your hands
Trembled in weakness
That bravery you found
Has run you out of town
The hour is getting late
Blood has sealed your fate
Cursed by some bravery gone wrong
You stood Beth in her doorway
With tears in her eyes
She knew without a word
That there was nothing else to try
The bad kids were coming for you
You sent her away inside
Your intentions were true
But you were let down by your pride
So you ran
Under cover of darkness
While your hands
Trembled in weakness
That bravery you found
Has run you out of town
The hour is getting late
Blood has sealed your fate
Cursed by some bravery gone wrong
